I was asked by a friend if the front wing really has an effect on the aerodynamics of a F1 race car. So I downloded a 3D model and ran a simple analysis. The results for a speed of 100 m/s resulted in a downforce of about 3000N and drag of about 1000N. Below is an video of some flow trajectories.
This morning while I was drinking some coffee, I thought I would build a simple CFD model. I assumed that once the hot coffee was poured into the mug, the fluid came to rest and any flow would be due to natural convection driven by buoyancy and density changes. As expected, natural convection loops can be seen in the video below.
